Campaigning by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has reportedly been halted by the governor, Bello Matawalle. Naija News has learned that the campaign event has been moved to January 18, 2023, due to unspecified circumstances. In a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, the party in the state claimed that its campaign officials had chosen to take a break, claiming that the ruling party had been advocating for the restoration of peace in the state. Matawalle was quoted as saying, "I have already promised that in my second tenure, I will restore peace in Zamfara State." This is what Governor Matawalle reportedly said at the beginning of his campaign last week, on Tuesday, December 27, 2023, in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of the State. Recall that Governor Matawalle appointed Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of the state, to serve as the coordinator of his campaign in the state. The ex-governor has nevertheless made a plea to the state's citizens, reiterating that if Matawalle wins re-election, the state's insecurity issue will be addressed.
Tinubu Dropped by APC Presidential Campaign Council Member in 2023 Zanna Bukar Ali, the Borno State representative on the APC presidential campaign council, has resigned from her position. According to Naija News, Bukar, a member of the campaign council under the directorate of youth mobilization, has stated that a conflict of interest prevents him from continuing to serve on the council. The politician from Borno emphasized that he is leaving all APC Presidential Support Groups as well as all other APC Support Groups that are supporting the party's candidate, Bola Tinubu, and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, in a letter to James Faleke, the secretary of the APC's Presidential Campaign Council. He claimed that he had to put the interests of the country before his own, and he added that his decision to resign was influenced by the APC's inability to field electable candidates who were deserving of the position. In the letter, he stated: "My resignation is effective for all other APC Presidential Support Groups as well as all other APC Support Groups that are working to elect His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima." Since 2015, I have been a devoted member of the party, and I have made many contributions, especially during the 2019 presidential campaigns. "I am appreciative of my former party and principal for appointing me to the committee, but I think the national interest comes before my personal interest."
